Crowns and bridges are prosthetic devices that are fixed
in the existing teeth by a dental surgeon. Crowns as the name suggest are used
to cap the decay tooth or cover an implant. The bridges are used to bridge the
gap between two teeth. After fixing these crowns and bridges into the desired place,
they are cemented with the existing teeth to become part of the system and act
as natural tooth.
Working
of a crown
Crown is put on the tooth after root canal treatment. It
covers the tooth and gives it a natural appearance. It also improves the size,
shape and alignment of the tooth. The crown is also put on an implant to give
it tooth like appearance and act as natural tooth for eating. Crown can also be
used by the dentist to protect a fragile tooth from fracturing further,
strength a weak tooth, attach a bridge or cover a discolor tooth.
Working
of a bridge –
The gap between teeth may put pressure on the surrounding
tooth to shift or rotate into the empty space. The gap may also cause some
eating problems to the person. To cover this gap the bridge is used between two
teeth. The bridges are cemented with the natural teeth or implants on the
either side of the gap. The bridges needs anchor, which is given in form of
abutment. The abutment is fixed with the implant and then a replacement tooth,
called a pontic, is attached to the abutment.

tooth so that the crown fits over it properly. After reducing the size of the
decay tooth, the dentist takes the impression of the teeth to make the exact
size of the crown or the bridge. If porcelain material is used for the crown or
bridges, then the dentist will take color of the existing teeth to match the
color of crown and bridges with the natural color of teeth.
