Dental Crown and Bridge Types and Their Fixing Procedure

A dental crown is a prefabricated tooth shaped cap that is put on the damaged, decayed tooth to give it full shape and natural look. It also gives the damaged tooth, the natural strength. Dental crown is given to restore natural look to tooth that is damaged due to any reason or after root canal, when the chances are that the tooth may break down in future. So cap is put on the tooth to prevent its further loss.

Three types of materials are used to make the dental crown. They are porcelain fused metal, ceramic crowns, all metal crowns that can come in form of gold, and porcelain dental crowns. Porcelain crowns and porcelain fused to metal crowns have tooth color. The porcelain fused metal crown offer best durability and aesthetics. All porcelain tooth crown are generally used for front tooth. They are considered the most aesthetic.

For making dental crown, first the impression of tooth is taken. Then it is used as mould for the dental crown. This crown is then placed on the decayed tooth or damaged tooth.  The use of local anesthesia is given to prepare the tooth to receive the crown.  The tooth, which has to receive the crown, is reshaped for proper fitting of the crown. The person receiving the crown is also consulted to determine the choice of color, size, bite and the material of the crown tooth. The impressions are taken and send to the lab for fabricating the tooth.  Sometimes temporary crown is placed on the damaged tooth. During the fitting of permanent crown, the temporary crown is removed and permanent crown is placed and cemented into the tooth. Some readjustments are done to the dental crown.

Bridge is done to fill the missing place of the tooth or teeth. This is custom made tooth and placed permanently in the missing places. The bridge is held by crowns placed on the neighboring healthy tooth.

There are three types of dental bridges and they are traditional, cantilever and Maryland bridges.
In traditional bridge crown Dental Implant Clinic Delhi NCR is used on either side of the missing tooth with a pontic in between. Cantilever bridges are generally done when there is adjacent tooth on one side of the missing tooth.

Maryland bridges are supported with metal framework and metal wings are bonded in the back of the tooth. Again the bridges can be made from three materials as in dental crown. They are porcelain fused metal, ceramic material and metal material. The porcelain tooth is used in the front, where the Dental Crowns Bridge Treatment in Delhi much strength is not required. Porcelain fused metal tooth bridge is put in the back, where the maximum force of chewing and grinding needed.

Dental bridge ensures that there is not further decay of the tooth. It also gives natural shape to the teeth.  And person can use them like natural tooth.

  1. Durability is best in the gold and metal alloys crowns, whereas the all-porcelain crown tends to be less strong, more suseptible if it is put under enough pressure (if you grind your teeth at night, this may pose a problem). from South Airdrie Smiles general dentistry.
